Friends of the Cancer Centre

For 39 years, Friends of the Cancer Centre has been dedicated to making a real and
meaningful difference to cancer patients and their families across Northern Ireland.
Friends of the Cancer Centre is here to enhance the quality of patient care and support
through our life-changing and life-saving work.  We do this by funding additional nurses,
supporting local research and providing practical support, such as our financial grants, which
help families through a difficult time.

Friends of the Cancer Centre relies on the generosity of the local community.  All money
donated stays in Northern Ireland, directly benefitting patients and their families.
How your support can help

A donation of £10 could provide 43 cups of tea or coffee for patients attending treatment.
A donation of £25 could fund an hour of specialist care from one of the charity’s Clinical
Nurse Specialists.
A donation of £100 could help provide a financial grant to those who need practical support
to deal with costs beyond medical care.
A donation of £200 could help fund local research equipment, allowing for the development
of new and improved ways to treat cancer.

Cancer Awareness

Talking Balls - We have produced our very own self-check card, with a step-by-step guide on
how men can check their testicles with the aim to raise awareness around testicular cancer.
The card was produced with the expert advice of Friends of the Cancer Centre’s testicular
cancer clinical nurse specialist, Melanie McNally, who is the only nurse of her kind in
Northern Ireland.

Breast Bud- The self-check hanger has a step-by-step guide on how to check your breasts
and chest, as well as some of the signs and symptoms people should look out for.  The
waterproof hanger can hang in the shower, on the door of the bathroom, or anywhere that
will remind people to check their breasts and chest once a month, every month.

Foodstock is tackling poverty and building resilience across Belfast through practical action. Each week they provide 3,400 free healthy breakfasts in schools and have kitted out 14,000 children with preloved uniforms. Thousands of meals are delivered into the community for people living in crisis. They also run employment initiatives, family support programmes, advice clinics and wellbeing groups. Through their Education & Empowerment Centre, they are reaching children in areas of high social deprivation, giving them better opportunities for learning and brighter futures. At its heart, Foodstock is about solidarity: people looking out for people and building a stronger Belfast together.
